Cars in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Officers mentioned they were notified by a individual who found a car in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Officers then found many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say initial examinations show the fluid was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.

A senior representative stated the incident made him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
